Welcome to the Spirit Committee!
A united and cohesive university community is necessary for all students to work together towards excellence, whether it is academics, athletics, or in any other arena. The School Spirit Committee of the Student Union seeks innovative ways to help students to connect with the BU community as a whole. We promote our common identity as Boston University students and encourage students to take pride at our university through sporting events and other methods.
Committee Chair: Amanda Peterson
Meetings: Mondays @6:30pm in the GSU Backcourt

Expansion of the Terrier Points System
This initiative calls to expand the reach and use of the Terrier Points System to include all events at the university, while currently the system is confined to specific athletic events. Some of the other events that can be included are Fine Art performances, College events, Academic events, Residence Hall events and any other events hosted by a group at the university. The universalization of Terrier Rewards serves multiple goals: it will bring more student support to all BU events, provide more recognition to non athletic groups on campus and provide both for a centralized and word of mouth advertising system. All events at which a student has to use an ID to enter are easily included, while for others multiple solutions can be implemented once this initiative is under way, including card readers, sign up lists and various other solutions. An increased use of the program may be beneficial for procuring more sponsorship from local businesses in order to improve the rewards.
Centralized and Increased Advertising of Student Events and Activities
Recently, the Student Activities Office has taken a major step forward in instituting YouDo@BU, a new social networking site through which student groups are managed and advertised. While this will undoubtedly be useful, physical advertising should not be neglected as an important part of Student Event and Activity advertising within the university. The Student Union executive board wishes to encourage and pursue the following objectives:
- dedication of some of the monitors within the GSU to display either a scrolling calendar of upcoming student events for the day or a highlight slideshow of advertisement for student groups and events
- Expansion of flier advertising boards inside the GSU, schools, colleges, and dorms in areas central to student activity where it would be tasteful to establish a board. A good example would be SMG’s successful implementation of bathroom stall flier boards.
